Physical Description | Owen stands at six feet tall, with a lean but muscular build that speaks to years of rigorous Starfleet training. His short, chestnut-brown hair is always meticulously groomed, a habit carried over from his Academy days, giving him a clean-cut appearance that contrasts with the subtle but intriguing imperfections that mark his otherwise youthful face. His deep green eyes, often described as reminiscent of a lush forest canopy, are perhaps his most striking feature. They hold a certain intensity, as though they’ve witnessed far more than his 27 years should account for. His skin, pale but healthy, bears the marks of an extraordinary ordeal years before -- scars that lace his body are a testament to this encounter. While his face remains largely unmarked, save for a barely noticeable webbing around his temples, his neck and wrists tell a different story. Here, the scars are more pronounced, forming a pattern that resembles cracked porcelain or the intricate webbing of a shattered windshield. The scarring doesn’t mar his appearance but instead enhances it, adding an air of mystery and a visual reminder of his resilience. These scars are less apparent when Owen is in his Starfleet uniform, where the high collar does little to hide the network of fine lines that spread from the base of his neck. The patterns are irregular but somehow symmetrical, as though they were deliberately etched by an unknown hand, a permanent reminder of the alien DNA that once attempted to overwrite his own. Owen moves with a quiet confidence, each step deliberate, as if he's always assessing the ground beneath his feet. His posture is straight, his bearing that of someone who’s not only survived but thrived in the face of the unimaginable. Yet, there’s a softness to his demeanor, a quiet humility that tempers his strength. He carries the weight of his experience not as a burden, but as a badge of honor—one that he neither flaunts nor hides. His voice is calm, with a timbre that soothes even in the midst of a crisis. When he speaks, there’s a precision to his words, each syllable chosen with care. It’s a voice that commands respect, not through volume or force, but through the quiet authority of someone who’s navigated the fringes of what it means to be human and emerged with a deeper understanding of the universe. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Former stellar cartographer/junior science officer who took time away from active assignment to change specialty areas to starship operations. |
Personal History | Owen was born on Earth, but grew up on the Bajoran settlement of Valo III where his father moved there following the death of his mother while giving birth. His father was an agricultural expert and oversaw the settlement's main food lines. While his father was looking down at the soil, Owen, always had his eyes on the stars. Owen excelled in school in science and mathematics and always wanted to go into a science career, possibly with the Bajoran government or Starfleet. His relationship with his father became stressed the older he grew because his father wanted him to stay at the settlement and help continue his work in farming. His father eventually re-married and Owen never got along particularly well with his new wife, Rachel. When he was older, his father and step mother had three daughters, but Owen never felt particularly close to any of them. His father seemed to prefer his new family over Owen and they grew further apart. After being estranged from all known family, Owen traveled and made his way around the Bajoran sector for 12 months prior to applying at the academy. In that time, he worked as a hand on a shipping freighter that ran supplies between Bajor and various colonies. Once accepted to Starfleet Academy, he worked hard to specialize in stellar cartography with aptitudes also in chemistry and physics. He was an above-average cadet, but was quiet and withdrawn. He was assigned to the USS Rhea following completion of the Academy as the ship's stellar cartographer. On his very first away mission to a geologically unstable rogue planet, he inadvertently collected a sample of a vanadium oxide-based organic compound, which they mistakenly thought was some kind of undiscovered lifeform, but was instead a sampling of genetic material from an undiscovered lifeform. It was still an exciting discovery and one that engaged the science team. However, soon after the mission and shortly into the scientific study, Owen's health began rapidly deteriorating. He was placed on life support, but it was not enough to sustain him and he died painfully. It was discovered that the emergency transporter used through the planet's unique atmosphere jumbled Owen's DNA with the DNA of the specimen he was carrying. After death, Owen's body began excreting an inorganic substance that enveloped him and hardened into a sort of chrysalis. For twelve days, there was no life signs from the mass. Then he re-emerged as a person with all of Owen's memories and functions, but with wild emotional swings and altered personality. He was transported to Earth, where he remained in quarantine and, subsequently, therapy and study for over a year before being released as fit for service. Although his DNA was changed less than .001%, no physical changes are apparent except for a sensitivity to light and exceptional low-light vision. His personality has stabilized, though he is generally more outgoing now and he has less interest in sciences and the idea sitting in one place studying star maps for hours on end makes him extremely uncomfortable. When he was released for duty, he went back to the academy for certification in Starship Operations. He completed that certification and has received orders for transport to Terok Nor to board his next assignment on the USS Firebird. |
