Physical Description | Kataxes is a physically imposing Tholian of colorful red-orange crystal, glowing with their own internal orange light like a powerful flame. They are tall, with a wide central crystal and thicker than average appendages. Six crystalline legs hold them up, placed around their central torso symmetrically, while their two spindly but powerful, multi-jointed arms end in three clawlike fingers. Their eyes glow a bright yellow. At almost all times, Kataxes also wears their environmental suit, which covers a majority of their appendages in thick but maneuverable metal while leaving their head and the front of their torso visible through the kind of transparent aluminum used in starship viewports. This suit is a gleaming dark metal that shapes around them like a pod, allowing them full movement and manipulation while keeping the internal atmosphere and extreme temperature requirements for Tholians intact. This suit also protects those around them from radioactive emissions, and acts as a real-time translator. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Kataxes is an incredibly open-minded and sharp Tholian with an extreme fascination with xenobiology and xenology in general. They are still deeply in touch with their own culture, and so they remain rigidly punctual and averse to sudden or surprising close contact, with a deep appreciation and love for their ways, music, and traditions. Despite this, they're very forgiving despite being professional, and they are incredibly curious about everything that makes an individual unique or different. Though they can act like a Vulcan sometimes, being slow to trust, their endless inquisitiveness and interest in both science and culture has pushed them to understand people better. They do not anger easily, but have a great mathematical mind for justified revenge. As one of the few to be part of the Tholian-Federation cultural officer exchange program, they are intensely committed to showing Tholians as deeply competent.
Strengths & Weaknesses | + Curious + Open-Minded + Professional + Sentimental + Deeply Intelligent + Quick-Witted - Slow to Trust - Over-Assertive - Unfamiliar with Cultural Details - Perfectionist - Strongly Dislikes Lying |
|
Ambitions | They wish to see true peace between the Tholian Assembly and the Federation, if only for the benefit of their people and a deeper connection between the many appearances of intelligent minds.
Hobbies & Interests | Music - Though Kataxes does not have a grand Webspiral, they deeply appreciate Tholian music and they want to someday build a simulation in the holodeck, or even have Tholian music in their quarters. Medicine - For obvious reasons, Kataxes is someone who scoops up information at every possible moment, with the Federation's extensive information on Medicine being first and foremost. Despite already being a practiced expert, Kataxes works to memorize every treatment on every species, and finds a great deal of fulfillment in taking their learned information and turning it on new patients. Enriched Vapor - Though Kataxes does not eat or drink like a humanoid, Tholians have developed many flavored gases to add to an atmosphere for a seemingly more pleasant or relaxing layered osmosis. Alcohols can be added for a similar, if diluted effect to alcohol in humanoids. |
Personal History | Kataxes was grown from the Chorum cavern cradle on Tholia, from the fragment of Lexas, and the radiation emissions from Renerrax. The child of a Musician and a Doctor, Kataxes grew up appreciating both art and science. Attending the Chorum Academic program from a young age, they were quickly realized by staff as an incredibly brilliant child, and they excelled in their studies for three decades, before pursuing higher education in biology, chemistry, medicine, and physics. Though Xenobiology has always been a controversial Tholian science since hostile First Contact, Kataxes was proud and young, only forty when they began pioneering the research. Alive for the Federation's many early conflicts, greatest of all the Klingon War, Kataxes spoke out against them, and every other alien species. As with the rest of their people, Kataxes failed to understand how vastly different humanoid culture was to their own, but instead sought the study of Xenobiology as a point of scientific pride. As researching humanoids progressed into cultural study, however, Kataxes began realizing how different it truly was. Renerrax, one of their parents, died in 2299 during a rescue mission to a failed Tholian outpost. The outpost's construction had been slowly failing, poisoning the internal atmosphere in a way that caused the Assembly to believe there was an illness. The discovery of this failure caused sudden Tholian Assembly power shuffling as old systems and political figures were replaced. Kataxes, heartbroken, became part of this shift in power. They joined the Tholian Assembly's Navy as one of the lead science and medical officers, eager and angry to move through Assembly space inspecting and repairing the many cut corners and outdated research and medical facilities. They spent fifty years reviving Tholian medical technology, studying what they could of the other species in the quadrant in their spare time. It was in this fifty years that they fell in love with another member of the team - a chemist, named Takene. This time in the 2350's was characterized by sporadic conflict with the Federation, something Kataxes took advantage of for study. Though there was never open war, Kataxes spoke of the cultural differences between the Federation and the Assembly, providing scientific advice about their differing views on territory. In the later 24th century, the Assembly began warmer relations with the Federation, seeking neutrality in the various conflicts. Kataxes used this opportunity to join ambassadors aboard low-priority Federation stations, spending a few years treating the occasional patient. Finally, in 2396, the Tholian Assembly and the Federation reached some tenuous, cold beginnings of a peace treaty. The very first step towards this was a cultural exchange of officers. A few scattered Federation officers and even fewer Tholian officers moved to join the other... with Kataxes very vehemently among them. A decorated officer and renowned medical professional, Kataxes was assigned as a Commander and the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Firebird. |
