Category: In character
Awarded: 23 times

Lieutenant Cynfor Rees
Mon Jun 3rd, 2019 @ 10:21pm
(May 2019)

"I must say, there were a good number of very strong writers in the last period, but Cynfor really grabbed my attention with their recent plot line. Really fantastic stuff."

"Cyn had several excellent posts and wrapped up a great personal development arc over the last month or two. It was really nice to see that seed planed in his character history mature and come to fruition across several posts with many different characters."

"The story arc to wrap up Rees' past was really well done and an interesting read. I also like how he manages to make his children appear "alive" and not just names in his personnel file."

"Cynfor's subplot added a ton of angst and intrigue to the interlude! It is such a gift when one of the crew crafts a story around their character and invites others to join in the fun. I can't wait to see what Rees gets up to next."

"It is always a pleasure to see someone take an interlude and really turn it into something special for their character. Cynfor's history made for a great group of JPs and will have an effect on the character's future. Great stuff."
Warrant Officer Arlan Harlan
Wed May 15th, 2019 @ 9:25pm
(April 2019) "Doug does a great job of being active, writing lots of posts and chatting on slack. Despite having a character that is older and set his ways, its cool to see his character grow. He has done a great job this last month!"

"Definitely Harlan for me. Harlan developed from Jeffries Tube hermit to Chief Jeffries Tube hermit in Warrant Command school. His character developed, he finished 3 JPs, and he's been a constant on Slack in spite of his busy work schedule. This is the kind of involvement that keeps ships going."

"It has been really great to see how Harlan has changed over the past few months. He has stepped up to a role that I don't think most people would have pinned on him when he first came aboard the ship. And while he retains his curmudgeonly, tubes loving persona, he is also a leader in engineering."

"I expect to see great things out of Harlan in the future. I am excited to see how things go for him. Great job!"
Lieutenant Commander Rhiana t'Aegis
Wed May 15th, 2019 @ 9:21pm
(February 2019) "We are blessed with a plethora of well written, well rounded characters on the Firebird. Rhiana is certainly one of those. However, she is more than that. She's a Romulan. Alone in a crowd, trying to find a place that she feels at home and not quite getting there. But she doesn't let that push her into giving up. She keeps doing her job. She brings unique perspective and dialogue. She makes decisions that are true to her background and somehow keeps surprising us. Her JPs are always a treat."

"First off in the simming community in general it is a fairly popular concept, a Romulan in Starfleet that is. But Rhiana handles that basic concept in a very unique way. She is not a fish out of water or Romulan simply biding time until the Empire can come back. She is a person who has embraces the Federation, but does it on her terms. Once more it seems that everyone on the crew has a unique respect for Rhiana both in character and out of character."

"Rhiana really dazzled me this month and has been a consistently great writer in this mission. She manages to keep herself in that strict alien mindset with very alien ideals and motivations, but so well adapted for our timeline and circumstances."

"This last mission was a great example of her writing. Her character is engaging and adds a lot to the story. Plus she is active on slack and always willing to be a part of the community."

"I wish there was a badass award. Rhiana just keeps hitting it out of the park."

"I like the ways that Rhiana surprises me as a character while staying true to herself. It's a good touch that Mel has handled well, and Mel as always is a steady presence on Slack."
Cadet Freshman Grade Gianna Djokovic
Tue Dec 11th, 2018 @ 10:22pm
(November 2018)

There were three very strong nominees this month but Gia ran away from the rest of the pack. The crew demanded that she be rewarded for her suffering and excellence.

"I thought Gia's interaction with the Seeker was fantastic and elevated her character over the others in this month. Really great job."

"I nominate: No Joy in Mudville This was a fantastic post with a well-built story narrative that kept me reading enthusiastically."

"Liam is a great presence in the JPs and Slack. He's been active in spite of many challenges this month. I think he deserves the award for his steady participation. I hope the award saves him from Cthulhu's terrible grasp."

"I make this nomination for a post still in progress. I approached Gianna with an idea for a backstory post for my character. I needed another writer to make the post more believable. Not only did they jump in with gusto, but their ideas have added to the post and the concept immensely. I am excited to get this side story completed, and with their assistance this will add a more believable side to Cyn."

"Because Liam continues to be dedicated to the sim despite his obvious and heavy curse. He also has managed not to spread the curse to the rest of us. Finally, because Gia has been wonderfully written for this whole mission with nuanced emotion and thought provoking actions. Eye see her!"
Captain Malcom Llwyedd
Wed Nov 14th, 2018 @ 10:32pm
(October 2018)

"I would like to nominate the Captain for this award for his portrayal of Jack Cunningham the Marine CO. His writing has inspired me to branch out the persona of Robert Schiano and make him more of a believable person. I appreciate that in more ways than one. I also feel that anytime a writer can inspire another they should be recognized."

"This scenario has required an extensive amount of planning and work. He has been writing a lot of characters and has done a lot to keep this fun and engaging mission going!"

"The comedic value Potter brings to the table continues with his pod. The combo of Potter, Lopt, and Kaya is providing not only a fun adventure, but putting several of the comedic relief characters together adds that much more to it. I'm particularly a fan of the interaction between Potter and Lopt in this post. Well done."

"Kipp Lak stayed in character yet managed to add in something new without retconning."

"It's a pleasure to read the Marine professionalism and no-nonesense attitude while still keeping to Starfleet values and not killing people just because. Cunningham is a perfect Marine and I'm looking forward to reading more of him. I think this mission is actually great for developing such a character."
Jillian Mox
Mon Oct 8th, 2018 @ 9:01am
(September 2018)

"My heart was aching for her when she was separated from Emily. Can't wait to see the (whole family?) reunion!"

"I think she has really excelled this month. The birthday post was fun and her pod post is riveting. The separation of Mom and Daughter has me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for her next posts to see where this is going to go!"

"Jillian's emotional portrayal of a mother looking for her daughter and being sick with grief when they are forced to make an impossible decision to leave her behind gave me chills and caused a few tears as I read it. I think it was one of the more powerful pieces I have read on this sim and a beautiful story."

"It is hard to pour emotions into a character and have it come off as truly authentic. It takes craft and nuance and Jillian was written beautifully in her first escape pod JP. I am excited to see how her story continues."
Lieutenant Laree Desai
Sun Sep 9th, 2018 @ 3:53pm
(June 2018)

"Audrey has always been an amazing contributor to the group, but I particularly appreciate her help this mission. She has kept us organized and given us the information to keep the mission going without stifling creativity. I am so happy she is with us!"

"The medical and science teams both deserve to be mentioned for their great efforts in finding a cure for the disease. But Desai was the one coming up with all kinds of detail about it and managed to do so in a way that made the disease very believable. Advanced enough to require some serious research and not just the a dose of some vague antidote, but also made it not impossible-to-solve-unless-you-use-magic. Definitely a great job."

"For the fun mission."

"For being the guiding light during our dark time on the Galilei. Way to bring us all back safely."

[Plot Development Award] Lieutenant Laree Desai

"Desai has made profound contributions to shape the science plots of our missions. That takes a lot of research and dedication to detail and nuance as well as leadership to get everyone moving in the same direction together. Hard work! But much more satisfying sci-fi in the end. :)"

"Without her extensive contributions, Mission 3 would not have been as riveting or fulfilling. She wrote well and was able to outline and plot the mission with all the writers."
Lieutenant Commander Rhiana t'Aegis
Sun Sep 9th, 2018 @ 3:48pm
(August 2018)

"Rhiana was everywhere this month. E Duobus Unum, War & Consequences, and the three-part Friends in High Places were all solid stories. Really great work."

"Rhiana wrote in six different JPs with at least eight other people. She did a great job writing really quality stuff. Plus, her involvement on slack is sometimes overlooked because of the timezone differences."

"I think Rhiana really did an outstanding job the last couple of months, hitting her stride with the character and being comfortable asserting herself with the crew. It's not easy having a character concept that constantly forces tension with every interaction but I think it is true to the Romulan personality and she does a spectacular job pulling it off."

"I really enjoyed learning about the resident Romulan this month. In the coming months I hope to learn more a develop a friendship. A very well written, well rounded character."

"The interlude and beginning of Mission 4 feel like Rhiana has really hit her stride and found her place here on the Firebird. I'm eager to read more about her and learn what makes her tick."
Lieutenant Laree Desai
Wed Jun 13th, 2018 @ 3:05am
"She is always working to make the sim better. Perhaps it is part of her being command staff, but I think that her being part of the command staff is a reflection of her dedication."

"I had a great time writing JPs with Desai this month!"

"Desai had a strong month appearing in several plot missions. Well done!"

"Seriously, what would we have done without her in May?! I am thankful for the energy and time she puts in to making her character authentic and interesting. I feel like the sci-fi science writing is impressive and helpful in keeping things interesting for the whole ship. I also love the overlay of spirituality to all the movements."

"Audrey has been amazing this month with running this story arc. Her guidelines and help has been vital to the success of these JPs. I have enjoyed this storyline and its success is in large part because of Audrey."

"She deserves recognition for her dedication to the sim and her tireless quest for excellence. She has provided leadership worthy of the second officer position and writing that is nuanced and deft. Thank you!"
Warrant Officer Arlan Harlan
Mon May 7th, 2018 @ 8:18pm
"The mirror universe JPs were a lot of fun - Doug's work on these JPs got a lot of people excited. It's an interesting way to re-imagine our characters that adds depth to our "normal" Firebird personas."

"I really enjoyed Harlan's responses on the mirror universe post. I know it can be difficult writing two sides of the same character in the same post and he handled it with ease. Harlan's writing is generally great and I look forward to getting some JPs with him."

"I think he has added lots of value to the ship over the months and his work on the mirror universe has been awesome."

"Doug had a good month of writing and a lot of activity on Slack. He's ready to throw Harlan into any situation and I look forward to reading how he handles them. Doug has also been a constant on Slack, and has new things to share."

"Doug's presence and can-do attitude are critical to the success of the ship. He's always ready to jump in and his eagerness to write this past month has been welcome. Great job embracing the Mirror Universe setting and encouraging others to participate."
Petty Officer 3rd Class Max Tragar
Wed Apr 11th, 2018 @ 2:25am
“One last sendoff for Luka after her promotion - You Can't Take The Ensign Out Of The Lieutenant was my favorite JP this month.”

“This is partly to wish this character a fond farewell for now and to celebrate several strong posts from this month. Obviously I'm biased towards Friendzone, but that wasn't the only one where Luka had some strong moments of humor and personality.”

“Luka has been a part of some of the most iconic JPs in the Firebird’s history. Her writing has continued to be strong and I will miss her when she is gone.”
Lieutenant JG Soto Gantt
Thu Mar 8th, 2018 @ 10:24pm
"Though we didn't see a lot of Gantt in the Mission 2 finale, his NPC Leed was a breath of fresh air in "Long Shot." He is around on the team chat a lot, ready with words of wit and wisdom and compassion. And he has done a lot of writing this month in support of other characters for JPs that will be posted soon. That kind of giving nature doesn't often draw attention to itself, but it deserves recognition. Gantt and Richard are guys who are always there when you need them."

"Gantt is written with a lot of heart. Whether it is saving us from things about to explode or being in the right place at the right time to push the story along, or even breaking hearts with his roguish charm, he is a key component of the Firebird crew. This award is well deserved!"
Cadet Freshman Grade Gianna Djokovic
Sat Feb 3rd, 2018 @ 4:24am
(October 2017)

"I've had very little posting time with liam. But I hope to have a lot more. Already from the lowest rank on the ship he's made such an impact with his characters. I look forward to more and more posts with him."

"Gia is memorable in every JP she is in. A bright and fresh personality. In addition to a well-written character, she also adds descriptions of her surroundings."

"Liam has no issues playing with as low of a rank as you can and really accepts the 'I am as green as they come' moniker and runs with it. The posts for Gia are very well thought out and descriptive. And has a early Wesley Crusher feel where yes even the lowest rank on a ship still has a story to tell. Great job."

"Liam has really bought into the whole mythos behind the Firebird. His writing shows that any person in the crew, regardless of rank, can have an important and substantive impact on the story and the ship. Well done!"
Commander Yumi Han
Sat Feb 3rd, 2018 @ 4:21am
(September 2017)

"I loved the twist of her being the mole and want to see where this leads for her character!"

"Her storyline was central to several important posts and they were enriched by the care she put into creating arcs between them. Also for often encouraging others on slack in spite of her own problems."

"Yumi is steady. I am pretty sure that I have nominated her before, but I will do so again. This last month has seen great development, and interesting storylines developing. She is constantly pushing us to write better. Reflecting on the plots and character developments that we are all working on. Her incarceration is a plotline I am very interested in seeing resolved."

"I've really enjoyed Yumi's character portrays these last few months. She's such an excellent story teller."

"Yumi's character is written with such nuance and dedication. I love reading about her."
Lieutenant Jackson Smith
Sat Feb 3rd, 2018 @ 3:55am
(March 2017)

Jackson has been the driving force between morale and reached out to most of the crew. He makes me want to reach out to more of the crew. For this I nominate him for crew choice.

For trying to come up with lots of ways for the crew to interact with each other.

Smith has worked hard to reach out to almost every member of the crew. Half of March's posts involve him. He's gone above and beyond to get everyone going and engaged.
Lieutenant Laree Desai
Sat Feb 3rd, 2018 @ 3:18am
“It does't seem right to nominate anyone else this month. Desai took me by the horns and dragged me kicking and screaming into the simm's mission, storyline and ensured I made a proper entrance lol. But aside from all of that ;) This woman is beyond an amazing writing. The depth of detail and research she draws into her character and the storyline is intense and it works so amazingly well. It drowns us in the ocean that is science and leaves us breathing and wanting more. As a person, Audrey is beyond amazing. She is so supportive in both an IC and OOC role. She's not afraid to take a person by the hand and push them to reach the potential she believes she sees in each individual. The woman has a heart of gold :)”

“It was awesome to write a non-counseling post that was still reasonably therapeutic to some degree. Savin was able to learn some things about Desai that he'd likely not have learned in a formal session.”
“Wow. Desai has supreme abilities to put me in the character's shoes through concrete physical details. Always a pleasure to read!”

“Desai is a powerful character. She has the feeling of a real person and helps draw me further into the story. I appreciate all of the detail and deftness in her writing. Plus ++ science!”
Lieutenant Laree Desai
Thu Jan 4th, 2018 @ 12:24am
"The Assault on Isengard."

"One of our most active players, even in this holiday month. Desai puts a lot of thought and care into her writing, and it shows. A devoted science nerd, she makes big contributions to every JP she is in. And beyond her position, Desai made a lot of connections with other PCs this month. To me, this one two punch would deserve a Library Award on one side and a Friendship Ribbon on the other together, but together they adds up to a Crew's Choice for me."

"Assault on Isenguard was such a fun post and a great idea. I haven't gotten to write with Desai much but I look forward to it in the future."

"Desai has been part of some of my favorite JPs thus far. Her sections in Interlude With Family were so well written. She brings incredible descriptions and depth to her character. It is easy to appreciate her knowledge of science and she uses them well to add to the story, not overwhelm it. She is certainly one of the best of the crew and well deserving of the Crew's Choice award."
Commander Yumi Han
Tue Dec 12th, 2017 @ 11:27pm
"Yumi has played a large role in character, and out of character she has done outstanding work filling in for me while I was away. I appreciate her hard work."

"Sarah shines--she helps track everything on Trello but also gives great advice during JPs for future directions. She's considerate and supportive. Her writing is a pleasure to read and she has some of the best metaphors I've ever seen. She breaths life into NPCs and is one reason this SIM is a joy."

"Without Han, I never would've been able to explore a specific counseling side of Savin's character, and the player seems very knowledgeable on the subject. She is a joy to write with."

"Yumi is one of the bedrock characters on the ship. She is involved in making the plot better every time she takes the stage. We are lucky to have her. I look forward to much more from our craft intelligence chief."
Lieutenant JG Luka Stern
Mon Nov 13th, 2017 @ 8:14pm
(July) "So many good stories with deep character insights. A real treat to read her Stern's thoughts and introspections."

"Karen is great. She works hard, writes well, and encourages and supports others. The Firebird would not be as great without her."

"Great job on shore leave posts with wonderful interactions with the rest of the crew!"

"Luka is, in many ways, the heart of the crew. She isn't the best fighter, highest ranked or most socially adept. But she does represent the connections that make a diverse crew a family. She is the type of character that shows anyone in an position can be important and loved
Captain Malcom Llwyedd
Mon Jul 3rd, 2017 @ 2:21pm
"For maintaining quality storytelling while keeping a crew stay through a hard month."
- Ensign Gnatt Soto

"For doing such an outstanding job running the sim! Thank you for all your hard work to create an enjoyable experience for so many people! We really appreciate it!"
- Lieutenant M'ndi M'rron
Commander Yumi Han
Tue Jun 6th, 2017 @ 2:53am
"Sarah works so hard on her posts and they are a delight to read."
-Luka Stern

"Motherly, sneaky and brilliant. Yumi showed multiple facets that added depth and entertainment to the story. She has excelled in every category."
-Soto Gantt

"Particularly for Eye of the Storm: All Your Base Are Belong to Us. It's great to see Yumi's skills really coming to light. The writing is great, and everything she does feels important, connected to those she's helping."
-L'Nel Haadok
Lieutenant Commander Ina Nici
Mon May 8th, 2017 @ 2:25am
Her outstanding leadership, guidance, and willingness to involve herself with many crew, have earned her the selection of her fellow cremates.

"For taking on several multi-part posts, organizing them on slack and overall activity to encourage things forward, I nominate Nici. She (he) was one of the strong characters that helped carry a strong month. I look forward to interacting with Nici in character and in slack."

"For her deep posting and top notch writing skills. She earns my vote for crew's choice."
Lieutenant Jackson Smith
Wed Mar 1st, 2017 @ 5:14pm
There were a number of people who were nominated for this award but Jackson received the most: This is a character (and writer) who made me feel at home right away. He has written with a various other members of the crew, writes well, and responds to tags quickly. Well envisioned character who's arc has been set up beautifully. My proud pick for Crew's Choice.
